CPF After-school Reading Club

Organization: Ecole Sifton School

Organization mission: Our vision in Battle River School Division is Every Student, Every Day, a Success. At Ecole Sifton School, we achieve this by promoting the academic, social, emotional and physical growth of our students while recognizing their unique individual characteristics. Through partnerships with the community, we strive to guide all students to be safe, respectful and responsible members of society and to promote their feelings of positive self-worth. Ecole Sifton School is a dual track school with English and French Immersion programs. Both programs strive to cultivate within each student an inquiring mind, tuned to a life-long positive attitude towards learning.

Placement description: One of Ecole Sifton's partners is the Camrose chapter of Canadian Parents for French (CPF), a group of parent volunteers. CPF organizes activities, such as the after school Reading Club, to enrich students' French language experiences beyond the classroom.

Student expectations: CSL students will need to work together to decide on specific activities each week (e.g. who will choose and lead games and organize the reading groups). There will be a CPF supervisor at each session to assist CSL students and to deal with any discipline, personal, health or safety issues that arise.
